Our pledge to Vincent Youth

Vincent youth have spoken and they want more discussion around mental health, the environment and employment and education in our community.

Between October 2019 and April 2020, more than 400 youth, parents and service providers from across Vincent were surveyed by the City about the things that matter most to them.

The results were used to develop Vincent’s first Youth Action Plan, which will guide the services and support offered to our young people in the future.

“Our Youth Action Plan 2020-2022 represents our pledge to continuously grow our relationship with Vincent youth,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“Young people in our community bring energy, enthusiasm and innovation. They have strong views, know what they need and are creative thinkers. We want to learn from them and we want their voices to be heard.

“This plan will help us deliver meaningful and relevant services for young people so we can support them to feel connected to their community and one another.

“It will ensure the youth perspective is considered in decision making and planning as Vincent continues to grow and change.

“It is our aim to empower youth to own their voices and help them develop confidence and resilience.”

The draft Youth Action Plan centres around four key themes - support and opportunity, community and participation, wellbeing and resilience and organisational capacity.

The themes reflect the needs, priorities and ambitions raised by youth during the City’s community consultation.

Mental health, the environment and employment and education were the top three issues raised by Vincent’s youth.

Young people also spoke about the importance of feeling connected, their desire to contribute and feel a sense of belonging and the activities they hoped to take part in.

The plan includes key deliverables for the City – from providing safe youth-friendly spaces to partnering with service providers to support mental health and creating leadership opportunities.

The City is inviting feedback on the draft plan. To read the draft plan in full and have your say, visit Imagine Vincent.
