Rangers out to educate

Vincent rangers are doing their bit to help flatten the curve with a major focus on community safety, safe distancing education and helping people who are experiencing homelessness.

Our rangers have been out in force over the past few weeks, but that doesn’t mean there have been more parking tickets tucked under the wipers of cars.

As part of the City of Vincent’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, rangers have shifted their focus to keeping an eye on parks and helping to educate people about physical distancing. They have also been focused on ensuring people who are experiencing homelessness can access help during these tough times.

“Social distancing rules have changed quickly over the past few weeks and our parks are even more popular than usual,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“Our rangers are here to help people understand what they need to do to keep safe while enjoying daily exercise. You will see more of our rangers at parks and playgrounds explaining to people why it’s not safe to gather in big groups or play on swings at this time.

“We want to make sure everyone in our community stays safe and our rangers also have a key role to play in monitoring the potential impacts of Coronavirus on vulnerable people experiencing homelessness.

“They have been keeping in touch with homeless service providers to help link people with outreach agencies and manage demand.”

The City’s rangers have made some changes to their work practices to ensure they comply with physical distancing while on shift, including taking statements from the public online. They are still responding to calls for help around animal control, noise, litter, parking obstructions, anti-social behavior, building security and alarm monitoring.
