Support for Vincent's innovative, responsive local businesses

Published on Saturday, 21 March 2020 at 4:06:01 PM

Vincent small businesses are being incredibly creative and responsive to maintaining customer service in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.

With reminders about social distancing coming thick and fast, local retailers are finding innovative ways to meet stringent public health directives whilst keeping their businesses going and helping to lift the spirits of customers.

The team at Beaufort Street Books are helping people choose books over phone or email and are they are offering free delivery for customers who live within 5km of the store.

Lupo Lab is offering free delivery for Mt Hawthorn locals for orders over $30 and in store they have spread out tables and are sanitising hourly.

Re Store in Leederville is restricting the amount of pasta, sauce and deli goods that can be bought so there is enough to go around and all of the nonnas and nonnos can be taken care of.

“These are great examples of local businesses knowing their customers and their needs and tailoring to suit them. I absolutely commend our local businesses for adapting in these deeply challenging times,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“Now, more than ever, is the time to throw your support behind our small businesses.

“Help out if you can while following the necessary health directives. Buy a gift card to give a business an immediate cash injection, or take advantage of the many delivery services.

“Before you buy anything, whether groceries, dinner, flowers or a gift, please stop and consider whether you can get it locally.”

Logistics

Local businesses are also coming up with innovative ideas to help meet social distancing measures in public spaces and traffic management solutions to assist with a greater focus on takeaways and deliveries. The City’s staff will work with local businesses to be as responsive to these requests as possible.

Local Governments have received an Emergency Management Act directive to allow for deliveries to shops, deliveries to home customers and collection of waste to happen 24/7, without any restriction on hours. This is essential and allows for these vital services to be prioritised.

Hardship Measures

With some businesses already taking the heartbreaking decision to close, restrict hours or operations, the coming months present many unknowns. The Federal and State Governments have announced support packages for businesses and the City of Vincent will be considering hardship measures as part of urgent budget review.
