Vincent community sport back in action

The City of Vincent has made it a priority to get winter sporting clubs back to training as soon as possible, with some local clubs resuming as of today and more to follow this week.

Clubs training on leased premises from the City along with community clubs using Vincent reserves can all start as soon as they have completed the State Government COVID-19 Safety Plan.

Clubs must also ensure they are following the non-contact distancing directives, keep shared equipment to a minimum and cleaned between use (hockey sticks, balls and racquets only) and keep a register of those in attendance. These strict protocols form part of the COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements and are enforceable by the State Government in the interests of keeping the community safe during the pandemic.

“There has been a huge amount of work underway and great will to make the return to training happen as soon as possible. Our team is working closely with our clubs to provide support where necessary and ensure all clubs are back training as soon as they are ready with a COVID-19 Safety Plan, said Mayor Emma Cole

“We are excited to welcome back Modernians Hockey Club, North Perth United Soccer Club, Subiaco and East Perth Football Clubs this week. We look forward to our other clubs returning as soon as they are ready too.

“The City of Vincent is preparing its own COVID-19 Safety Plan for management of our reserves and community facilities.

“We have used this down time to do some desperately needed turf maintenance at Britannia and Charles Veryard reserves so there are some parts that are roped off in the very short term. However, we are able to offer our clubs training at another location – either on the same reserve or a different ground in Vincent, like Birdwood Square or Beatty Park Reserve.

“We are providing checklists for sporting clubs to support them to return within the guidelines as fast as possible. We know how important our local clubs are to our community’s social, mental and physical wellbeing and we are really excited to welcome them back and support them to start up training again”, says Mayor Emma Cole.
