Today, we commemorate ANZAC Day differently.
I am honoured to present this short online service alongside Trevor Stiles, President of the RSL Mt Hawthorn Branch in tribute to generations of service men and women who have defended our values and freedoms in more than a century of service.
This year, we may be staying home but we are still marking this day in ways that demonstrate great heart and spirit. Gestures of kindness and togetherness – like lighting up the dawn on our driveways this morning - demonstrates our strength as a community and our resilience as Australians.
At this time of great challenge, we can lean upon our great tradition of mateship – a proud and defining characteristic of our first ANZACs.
This spirit of mateship was a strong bond of support between one another, for the greater good. The ANZACs stuck together and endured through difficult times. And we will too, knowing this spirit lives on in us. We are thankful and we honour them today.”
Lest we forget.
