With the Perth and Peel region back in lockdown, locals and business owners in Vincent are doing what they can to keep a smile on people’s faces.
Hunter Store in Leederville is offering a 20% discount on all online orders until Friday and Spritz in Mt Hawthorn have your Aperol cravings covered, with their famous Aperol Spritz available for takeaway.
With many of your favourite cafés and restaurants in Leederville, Mt Hawthorn, North Perth, West Perth and Mt Lawley still open for takeaway, there has never been a better excuse not to cook.
Pop in for a takeaway coffee or meal, but please remember to mask up, social distance and stay safe.
While businesses continue to keep locals happy and fed, residents are also out in force spreading cheer in our neighbourhoods.
Grandmother Jan Wilkie left a basket of freshly picked pomelos on her front verge for her fellow neighbours, with tips on how to cook the unusual fruit.
“Pomelos are a yellow citrus fruit, much larger than a grapefruit, and are great for marmalades or chutney,’’ she said.
“With pomelos in abundance at the moment I thought why not share the fruit with the community, I don’t like anything going to waste.
“Our community are so great at supporting each other and during a lockdown is no different.”
Another local Amanda Jane who runs the Secret Garden Devonshire Tea House has been baking up a storm in her Mount Lawley home, and delivering freshly baked scones around the Vincent area.
“What is better than a hot scone straight from the oven piled high with luxurious double cream and jam?’’ she said.
“With my business currently closed I wanted to keep busy and put smiles on people’s faces and a fresh scone and hot cup of tea can certainly help.”
“It’s also important that businesses remain creative during these times and come up with new and exciting ways to get their product out there.”

And for residents wanting to jazz up their mask collection, Leederville resident Caitlin Susan is putting her sewing skills to good use –making fabric face masks for adults and children who need them.
The triple layered masks ($15) come in an assortment of colours and fabrics and can be purchased through the Mount Hawthorn & Surrounds Facebook page.
Mayor Emma Cole said it was lovely to see the community band together in times of need.
“It’s so wonderful to see our residents and businesses looking after each other, it really is the silver lining in this pandemic,’’ she said.
“I encourage our locals to continue supporting our local businesses where they can, whether that’s shopping online, ordering contactless delivery or collecting takeaway from one of our many fabulous restaurants.
“Just remember to wash your hands, wear your mask, stay a safe distance from others and please get tested if you’re unwell.”
