Peak flu season is almost upon us and there has never been a more important time to protect yourself from getting infected.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still active in Australia, it is more important than ever to get the influenza vaccination and protect yourself from getting the flu.
Vincent residents who get the flu jab will be doing their bit to help ensure our hospitals are not put under unnecessary pressure during a global pandemic.
The flu vaccination is free for primary school children and people who are high risk, including the elderly and those who are immunocompromised.
“Vaccination is the best protection against the flu,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
“I would encourage all community members to get the flu jab this year to protect themselves and others, particularly vulnerable members of our community.”
The flu is a common virus that is highly contagious. It can cause a mild to serious illness, and even death, in people of all ages. Typical symptoms include sudden fever, headache, sore throat, runny nose, cough, fatigue, aches and congestion.
The City has put together a list of local flu vaccination providers, which is available online here.
